How We Operate

Moneyfacts has been providing financial data to the financial services industry and to the press for 20 years. Our company ethos is based on independence and transparency. We’re proud of our independence and the benefits this brings to you. Our Customer Charter sets out what Moneyfacts stands for.

The Moneyfacts.co.uk Service

Moneyfacts.co.uk is a financial product comparison site. You can’t buy anything directly from our website. We give you information on financial products from our extensive research databases in Best Buy tables and product searches. For products which we don’t research (like home insurance, motor insurance and utilities) we have partnered with third parties so you can compare prices and buy with them.

When you see something you like, we will introduce you to the provider’s website, where we have an arrangement with them, or either direct to an Independent Financial Adviser or to someone who will pass your information onto an Independent Financial Adviser.

Accuracy of Data

  • Moneyfacts Group plc’s team of researchers are in constant contact with product providers to ensure that the information we provide is as accurate as possible. Our reputation with financial services companies and financial advisers depends on our data being accurate. That makes it very important to us.
  • Best Buy tables are provided for a range of products. Moneyfacts accepts no payment for entry in the tables. The products in the tables are those which we believe to be the best for the consumer. Take a look at how our best buy tables are made up.

Market Coverage

For investments (endowments, unit trusts, pensions and annuities), mortgages, savings, banking, credit cards, personal loans, car and life insurance we cover the whole of the market. In practice it isn’t possible to cover every single product from every single provider, but we aim to get as close as we possible can and we include at least 95% of providers in our product searches and Best Buy analysis. We certainly include all the main providers in the UK and look to include overseas banks operating in the UK where they are actively soliciting business from UK consumers.

The companies we don’t include tend to be small regional building societies or overseas banks which only offer services to limited markets in the UK.

For other insurance products and secured loans our service is based on a fair comparison of the market.

How We Get Paid

We’re a business, so we want to make a profit. However, we want to be transparent about how we get paid. There are two main methods:

  • Advertising

Other companies place advertisements on our website, and we get paid based on how many times the pages they are shown on are called up by visitors to the site. These are called ‘impressions’.
  • Clickthrough Payments

Cost per click – for some products, including home insurance and motor insurance we simply get a few pounds each time someone clicks through to our Insurance partner, Beat That Quote’s website from Moneyfacts.co.uk.

Cost per lead – For mortgages, life insurance and annuities we get paid each time someone fills in a lead form and submits this to our mortgage, life insurance and annuities partners.

Cost per application – For savings, banking, personal loans and credit cards, we get paid for each application submitted after a customer links to the provider’s website from Moneyfacts.co.uk.
  • These payment methods allow us to make this a free service for customers.
  • The relationships we have for payment don’t have any impact on how products are shown on Best Buy Tables or search results.
