Customers of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group will be able to make free cash withdrawals from the Post Office from this Friday.

Under the new arrangement around 19 million RBS, NatWest and Ulster Bank retail and business current account customers will be able to make cash withdrawals and balance enquiries at any Post Office branch in the UK from Friday 23 September 2011.

The Post Office will not charge for the transactions which will be available at all 11,800 Post Office branches nationwide.

Withdrawals up to daily individual limits will be permitted, with customers only needing their debit card and PIN to access their cash.

The Post Office has the largest retail network in the UK, with more branches than all of the UK high street banks combined.

"This new partnership between the Post Office and RBS Group means that around 80% of total UK debit cardholders can now benefit from the convenience of withdrawing their money - completely free - at any Post Office outlet nationwide," said Paula Vennells, managing director of Post Office Ltd.

"The Post Office is committed to achieving a position where current account holders of all UK banks can access their accounts at Post Office branches."

Les Matheson, managing director of retail products at RBS, said: "We welcome this move as it gives our customers another option to access their money through the Post Office network."
