Brown reveals Budget date

Brown reveals Budget date

Category: Economy
Date: 3/9/2010

This year's Budget will be delivered on Wednesday 24 March, the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, has confirmed.

Mr Brown said in a speech this morning the Budget would take place in two weeks time.

Chancellor Alistair Darling later gave official confirmation of the exact date in a written statement to Parliament.

Chief amongst the issues the 2010 statement will need to address is how the Government intends to reduce the £178 billion public borrowing deficit and restore some order to the country's finances.

It has already been announced that senior public sector workers, including judges and GPs will have their salaries frozen in 2010/11.

Equally high up on the agenda will be how the Chancellor plans to help the economy further towards recovery.

Official data recently revealed that the UK's emergence from the recession had been stronger than previously thought.

"We have got through this storm together, but there are still substantial risks ahead," warned Mr Brown.
