First direct has gone five star by reducing the rates on some of its five year fixed rate mortgages.

Its lowest rate now stands at 3.89% and with a fee of just £99, the overall package wipes the floor with the competition.

It is available to borrowers with at least a 35% deposit (maximum 65% loan to value), and also has an incentive for remortgages of free legal fees.

A terrific rate in tandem with a very affordable fee sees this deal earn the maximum five out of five Moneyfacts stars.
