Credit cards Date:
Barclaycard has reasserted its control of the 0% balance transfer market by extending the 0% balance transfer periods on two of its credit cards. Barclaycard now holds both first and second position in the charts.
Platinum 34 Month BT Visa now offers a market-leading 34 months of 0% interest on balance transfers, as well as six months of 0% purchase rates.
Meanwhile, Platinum 33 Month BT Visa has a lengthy 33 months of 0% balance transfers and, like its 34-month equivalent, it also has 0% purchase rates for six months.
Borrowers need to be at least 21 years old to apply for either card.
After the introductory periods, the standard purchase rate on both cards reverts to 18.9% APR and the standard balance transfer rate rises to 18.9% per annum.
Balance transfers must be made within the first 60 days. The 33-month credit card charges a balance transfer fee of 2.79% (partially refunded from 3.50%), while the 34-month variant charges 2.99% (also partially refunded from 3.50%).
Free purchase protection is offered for 90 days on both cards, which offers an added bonus to borrowers.
Applicants should remember that the rates are dependent on their credit rating.
Although this market is proving to be particularly volatile, Barclaycard has re-established itself as market-leader by extending its balance transfer periods to unprecedented lengths. As a result, both cards are likely to attract borrowers looking to manage their credit card balances and spread their spending.
