Virgin Money has amended the rates on its low rate credit card, but this has not dented its competitiveness and it maintains its coveted chart place.

The basics…

Virgin Low Rate Credit Card MasterCard offers introductory balance and money transfer rates of 7.9% per annum with no fee whatsoever, together with a joint market-leading standard purchase rate of 6.4% APR.

The finer details…

Balances must be transferred within 60 days in order to qualify for the introductory deals. Once the 60-day period comes to an end, both balance and money transfers will be charged at an amended standard annual rate of 19.9% with a fee of 5.00%. However, transfers made before then will keep the rate of 7.9% until the balance has been cleared.

Borrowers must be at least 18 years old to apply. Applications can be made either online or by phone.

Why we like it…

This card may have had its rates tweaked slightly, but it's still an attractive option for those who are looking for a card that charges a low rate for purchases. As a result, it fully deserves to remain among the best buys of its sector.

Moneyfacts rating: Excellent
