NatWest has unleashed a competitive new cashback credit card on the market, securing it a place on the Moneyfacts best buy charts.

The basics…

The NatWest Cashback Plus Credit Card MasterCard offers 1% cashback on supermarket purchases and spending in selected retailers, as well as 1% on all contactless payments until 31.3.15. Cashback of 0.5% is also available for all other purchases.

The finer details…

The standard purchase rate for this card is 17.4% APR while a rate of 12.9% per annum applies to all balance transfers and cash transfers.

Cashback can be redeemed by reducing the credit balance or trading the rewards for gift cards from selected retailers. There is also an option to donate the cashback earned to selected charities.

An annual fee of £24 is charged for using this card, so users will have to weigh up whether the benefits offered will outweigh this yearly fee.

Rates are dependent on the applicant's credit history and all applicants must be at least 18 years old.

The credit card is also available through RBS.

Why we like it…

This card offers attractive cashback rates on supermarket spending, contactless payments and other shopping. This is bound to attract the attention of those who want to see returns on their shopping. However, the annual fee is quite a hefty one, so applicants need to weigh this up carefully against the benefits they could get from cashback.
