What is included in a Halifax Home Insurance policy?

We have summarised the key features in Halifax's home insurance buildings and contents policies below. You can also choose upgrades or Ultimate cover. See below for more information.

Buildings cover under a Halifax Home Insurance policy includes: 

  • Cover for a private residence including some cover for your outbuildings
  • Replacement for lost or stolen keys and locks for outside doors and fixed safes or alarms inside your private residence
  • Pay for similar, short-term alternative accommodation for you, your family and domestic pets if your home becomes uninhabitable
  • Clearing drain blockages if normal methods to clear this have not proven successful
  • Tracing, removing, replacing and making good oil and water leaks that have caused damage to your home
  • Cover for loss or damage if your building is damaged while emergency services access your property due to medical emergency or to prevent damage to property.

Contents cover under a Halifax Home Insurance policy includes: 

  • Cover for contents in your private residence and some cover for contents in outbuildings.
  • New for old on replaced contents
  • Cover for contents in transit when moving home and using a professional removal firm
  • Replacement of deeds and documents
  • Payment to replace any downloaded data that is not recoverable
  • Cover for loss or damage to any fixed items or home improvements made by you as a tenant if caused by a covered event
  • Replacement of office equipment specifically used for your business
  • Increased cover for gifts and extra food for applicable religious festivals, birthdays, weddings, civil partnership, and anniversaries
  • Repayment of money lost or stolen from your private residence
  • Replacement of visitor’s belongings if damaged or stolen when staying in your private residence
  • Replacement of freezer contents due to accidental damage

Additional cover options

You can select the following options to add to your Halifax home insurance policy.

Property owner’s liability cover

Provides liability cover for accidental bodily injury to anyone outside of your family or domestic staff and damage to physical property you do not own or look after.

Outbuildings cover

Outbuildings cover for both buildings and contents broadly provides the same cover as provided for your private residence.

Accidental damage cover

This is cover for any damage that is accidental, sudden, and unexpected. Normal wear and tear to items is not included. You can choose accidental damage for buildings and contents. Examples of accidental damage cover for buildings includes a football smashing a window or a key snapping in a lock. For contents it could be to cover damage to your carpet if a drink has been spilled or dropping and breaking your mobile.

Legal cover

Pays up to £50,000 for legal costs and access to a legal advice helpline. This could be used for employment disputes, contract disputes, injury claims, identity fraud, jury service

Home emergency cover

Upgrade to Halifax Insurance Ultimate

You can also upgrade your insurance to Halifax Insurance Ultimate and receive replacement sets cover. If an item that forms part of a matching set has been damaged, then all items in the set will be replaced. An example could be replacement kitchen doors, where these are part of a set buy only one door has been damaged. The replacement would be uniform to the set and this may mean replacing all the kitchen doors if that design is no longer available. Under your contents cover an example of this could be replacing a three-piece suite when only the armchair has been damaged.
