Does your business rely heavily on the internet?

If so, you will need to ensure that your connection is reliable and trustworthy.

This is where business broadband comes into play. Many internet service providers have created bespoke business broadband packages to ensure businesses can run their online operations without concern.

The benefits:

  • Faster broadband and upload speeds: Many business packages offer speeds of up to 24mb compared with the often slower speeds of residential connections (unless they're on fibre). You also get priority network access, which means your web traffic will take priority over other things being sent on the same lines and you get a lower contention ratio, meaning you'll be sharing the line with less people. When it comes to uploads things are faster paced, too, with speeds of up to 2.5mb being possible.
  • Customer support: Most business broadband tariffs offer priority customer support and technical advice, some with a 24-hour helpline.
  • Generous download allowances: When running a business, your download usage is likely to be higher than the general consumer, and this is catered for in the business broadband packages available.
  • Static IP addresses: When you take out a business package you will get a static IP address, as opposed to a dynamic one which changes constantly. This will allow you to securely log on to your office PC from home as well as enabling you to easily share larger files with colleagues and clients using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). It also makes for a more reliable VoIP service (Voice over Internet Profile), allowing you to make calls via services such as Skype.
  • Webspace and email addresses: Particularly appealing to smaller businesses may be the fact that they can use the .co.uk webspace and email addresses offered by many business broadband providers.

Ensure you choose the right package for your business needs

You can choose from broadband-only packages or bundles which include telephone usage, which can often save you money. You will need to consider your company's needs and compare the deals available.
