The winners of the Moneyfacts Consumer Awards 2019 were announced last night at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. Industry professionals from leading financial services and utility providers gathered to hear the results at the exclusive event, which was hosted by Zoe Lyons.

Celebrating the best in class

The best product is not always the cheapest and additional benefits can sometimes be overlooked. Therefore, these awards showcase technically great products that also have consumer approval.
The Moneyfacts Consumer Awards combine honest, grassroots customer feedback, taken from our annual consumer survey, with an in-depth expert analysis of each individual product by our dedicated research team. The results determine which providers will be celebrated for delivering the best products and services across the industry.
Michelle Monck, head of Digital at Moneyfacts, said: "At we believe consumers need to have the right information and be given a voice about their experiences of different financial brands, products and services. Their honest responses to this survey along with our technical knowledge mean this year's Moneyfacts Consumer Awards continues to recognise, not just the best products in their areas, but also excellent service as well. The publication of this year's winners and finalists represents those brands consumers might want to consider when comparing financial products."
Big names and smaller, specialist providers shared the honours at the event, with these awards truly showcasing the best from across the industry. Among the big winners, Admiral and Nationwide Building Society won Home Insurance Provider of the Year and High Street Mortgage Provider of the Year respectively, while Yorkshire Building Society scooped the First Time Buyer's Choice award, RAC Insurance won Car Insurance Provider of the Year and Tonik Energy took home the award for Energy Provider of the Year.

Consumers as the real winners

With over 180,000 completed surveys this has been another record-breaking year, with more people than ever sharing their views on the best consumer service providers and products in 2018. Being well established as the UK's largest survey of its kind also means that more people than ever enjoyed the chance to win one of the three £1,000 cash prizes that were up for grabs. For a trio of lucky individuals, the publication of the Moneyfacts Consumer Awards for 2019 sees them celebrating their own good fortune in addition to all the providers who won in their category or who were awarded a commended or highly commended place.
Perhaps as a direct result of growing customer awareness around financial frauds and phishing scams, at least two of the winners were initially hesitant to believe it when they were first contacted by Moneyfacts about their win. "I haven't told my wife yet in case it wasn't genuine!" said Robert Murray, who spoke about being told he had won a £1,000 prize. Once he'd been assured that all was genuine and he really was a winner, Robert had a few ideas on how to spend his windfall: by taking his wife on a steam railway holiday as a surprise. "My wife laughs at me for filling out customer surveys – she's always said that I'm wasting my time," Rob remarked. We imagine that she'll be pleased to have been proven wrong on this occasion.
Mark Talbot was similarly a little cautious about being told he was a winner: "When I received the call I was sceptical at first as I get a lot of spam calls. I soon realised that there didn't seem to be any catch and remembered carrying out the survey in question. When the follow up emails didn't ask for any suspicious details I started to get more excited. When a cheque arrives that will be the cherry on top!" Mark advised that he intends to spend his winnings on decorating his home, which he is currently in the middle of renovating.
Many congratulations to our lucky winners, and to all those providers who were celebrating their success at the Royal Lancaster Hotel last night.
