What are Moneyfacts Star Ratings?

For over 35 years, Moneyfacts Star Ratings have been the instantly recognisable and independent badge of quality for the retail financial industry. How do they work?

Moneyfacts Star Ratings was created to provide you, the consumer, an easy way to see which products offer features that make them stand out from their competitors. Moneyfacts regularly compares the data for thousands of products to award a Five or Four Star Rating to those that have standout features.

All the products that have been awarded a Five or Four Star Rating have been analysed by a specialist team at Moneyfacts, so consumers can be confident in knowing that a product with a Star Rating excels from competitors and offers consumers that little bit more than a standard product within the market.

What do we review?

Every product within our Star Ratings categories are analysed and assessed, and we release details of those that have obtained a Five or Four Star Rating. When looking at products, a number of factors are taken into consideration, including checking whether it has a full range of features you would expect for that product, along with additional benefits, optional extras or add-ons that make it stand out from the rest of the products on the market.

When are they awarded?

Star Ratings are awarded to specific categories of products throughout the year. In January Star Ratings are given to home insurance, home emergency cover and unsecured personal loans. In February Star Ratings are given to SIPP & SSAS, car insurance and commercial vehicle insurance products. Pet insurance and equity release products are given Star Ratings in March. In April ethical fund products are given Star Ratings. Critical illness and private medical insurance products are given Star Ratings in May. In June business current accounts and business credit cards are awarded Star Ratings. Products within the travel insurance industry are given Star Ratings in July. In October Star Ratings are awarded to personal current accounts and personal credit & charge cards products.
