Two lucky premium bond holders have become millionaires in the August prize draw, with one winner holding just £1,001 in premium bonds and has become one of the smallest ever holdings to scoop the top prize.
The winner with just £1,001 in premium bonds comes from Devon and won with the number 404KX510146, which was purchased in July 2020. Of the 464 premium bond millionaires, just 12 others have won the top prize with a holding of less than this ticket holder.
Meanwhile, the second winner came from Wales with the number 202ZQ082477. This winner holds £10,051 in premium bonds and the winning bond was an automatically reinvested prize from a previous win in March 2013.
Commenting on the prize draw, Jill Waters, retail director at NS&I, said: “We’re absolutely delighted for our two winners in Devon and Wales. The winner from Devon shows that, no matter how much you hold in premium bonds, you’re always in with a shot at winning the £1 million jackpot. Each and every £1 bond has an equal opportunity, which is what the magic of premium bonds is all about.
“Our winner from Wales scooped the jackpot with a bond that was reinvested from a prize win in March 2012. Winners can choose to either have any prizes they may win paid directly into their bank account or reinvested into more premium bonds.
"I’m sure that our winner from Wales will be banging the drum for having prizes automatically reinvested into more premium bonds now that she’s a millionaire after choosing that option.”
Along with these £1 million jackpot winners, a further five lucky premium bond holders scooped the second-best prize of £100,000 this month. As well as this, 11 holders won £50,000, 21 win £25,000 and 54 won £10,000 in the August premium bond prize draw. Thousands more picked up further prizes ranging from £5,000 to £25. In total, over £92 million was won as prize money in this month’s draw, with over 3 million numbers winning prizes.
Premium bond holders wanting to check to see if they have won in this month’s prize draw can do so via the prize checker on the NS&I website, nsandi.com or through the official prize checker app. The holder’s number is needed to see if they are a winner, this number can be found on the holder’s bond record or by logging into their account.
