Santander has decreased the rate on its regular savings account, yet despite this, it remains in the Best Buy chart for its sector at a competitive third place and earns a high Moneyfacts rating.

The basics…

The Regular eSaver Issue 3 now boasts a variable rate of 2.50%, which is paid on its anniversary.

The finer details…

This account requires a minimum initial investment of just £1, but does require customers to have or open a Santander current account for all transactions. There is no penalty for missed payments and no minimum number of payments, with the maximum monthly deposit standing at £200.

Unlimited contributions (up to the monthly maximum) are allowed via the linked Santander current account, with additions having to be made via standing order. Unusually for this sector, an unlimited number of withdrawals can also be made (via the linked account), but it should be noted that withdrawn funds cannot be replaced. The account can be opened in branch or over the phone, and then operated online or by mobile app.

Why we like it…

The rate on this account is still attractive, and the flexibility it offers makes it even more appealing, therefore fully deserving its high spot in the Best Buys, as well as its high rating.

Moneyfacts rating: Excellent
