About us

A brief history of Moneyfacts

Moneyfacts has been providing its trademark independent, accurate and comprehensive comparison charts to the public and financial sectors for over 30 years.

Starting life as a six-page factsheet and newsletter in 1988, Moneyfacts was created as a way for ordinary consumers to quickly and easily compare financial products. Three decades on from its birth Moneyfacts has grown into Moneyfacts Group which includes Moneyfacts.co.uk. Moneyfacts Group provides financial data and analytical tools for the financial services sector and regulators. It also runs a series of prestigious industry awards recognising the best advisor firms, banks and building societies and many others for their products and quality of service.

The story behind Moneyfacts.co.uk

At the dawn of the new millennium and once we all knew the Millennium bug hadn’t ended the world, John Woods, founder of Moneyfacts, made an important decision. He decided that the best way to help more people make better financial choices was to take the data from the printed Moneyfacts publication and put it into a digital form.

Moneyfacts.co.uk was born. A comparison site with a difference, designed to be completely independent and committed to providing you with the most up-to-date and impartial financial information possible.

And today, we are still going strong, helping millions of people every year to make better financial choices.

Market coverage

For mortgages, savings, banking, credit cards, personal loans and investments (unit trusts, investment trusts, with-profit bonds, pensions and annuities) we cover the whole of the market (in practice it isn't possible to cover every single product from every provider so we aim to include at least 95% of providers).

We always include all the main providers in the UK and look to include overseas banks operating in the UK where these are actively targeting UK consumers. The companies we don't include tend to be small regional building societies or overseas banks which only offer services to limited markets in the UK.

For secured loans our service is based on a fair representation of the whole market.

For some product types our listings are purely commercial and based on companies that wish to pay a small fee for us to introduce customers. These areas on our site tend to be the less common products or services rather than the mainstream products like mortgages, savings and credit cards.

How we are regulated

Moneyfacts.co.uk is operated by Moneyfacts.co.uk Limited which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for mortgage, credit and insurance business. Our FCA permissions allow us to introduce you to other regulated firms, but not to sell products directly or give advice. The products we deal with such as, mortgages, personal loans, credit cards, overdrafts products, ISAs and retirement products are regulated by the FCA. The FCA don't regulate most business services.

Moneyfacts Consumer Awards

Every year we ask Moneyfacts.co.uk users and the customers of financial companies from across the country to vote for their favourite financial brands. We combine this honest, grassroots customer feedback, taken from our annual consumer survey, with in-depth expert analysis of each individual product by our dedicated research team. The results determine which providers will be celebrated for delivering the best products and services across the industry.
